The world has entered a year in this global pandemic, but there are many, many people who still need to be reminded that wearing a face mask can help stop the spread of Covid-19. Nevertheless, WarnerMedia has teamed up with Ad Council and CDC for a PSA ad that serves as a friendly reminder to Americans to “hide the mask” with the help of some of the most iconic characters in cinema history.
In the new digital TV and video to be streamed through the WarnerMedia ecosystem, we see Moments in Austin Powers in Goldmember, Casablanca, Creed, Birds of Prey, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, IT, The Joker, Justice League, The Lord of The Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, The Matrix, Mad Max: Fury Road and Wonder Woman Reimagine it with characters wearing face masks. A Public Service Ad (PSA) was provided free of charge by Warner Media Studios’ internal creativity agency 10th Street Productions as part of the Advertising Council’s larger “Mask Up America” initiative. The site will also be broadcast in the time and space of the media donated across the country.

“We are very grateful to the WarnerMedia team for their commitment to educating Americans about the importance of wearing a face mask to protect themselves and their families from COVID-19,” said Lisa Sherman, President and CEO of the Advertising Board. “We know that face masks are still one of the most effective ways we can protect ourselves from the virus, and we are truly grateful to Warner for loaning its talents and blockbuster movies to support this important message.”
As Covid-19 continues to spread across the country, the number of Americans wearing masks outside of their homes has settled on a steady basis in the past few months to about three quarters (according to the Axios-Ipsos survey). According to IMHE projections from January 27, if 95% of all Americans wore a mask, nearly 22,000 people could be saved by May 2021. With vaccines rolling out over the coming months, the need for the use of the mask remains critical in order to help stop the spread of the virus. ; However, mask use is expected to decrease in the spring months.
“WarnerMedia is proud to help educate and inform our fans about the importance of wearing masks during this pandemic,” said Dennis Williams, Senior Vice President, Corporate Social Responsibility, WarnerMedia. “Wearing a mask is an effective way to protect ourselves and our loved ones from COVID-19. We hope our fans will follow suit by seeing some of our favorite heroes and personalities masked. Wearing a mask is a simple step we can all take to appear and support our communities during this difficult time.”
