Exclusive: The Young Turks has launched a new venture, TYT Productions, a film and television company that will develop and produce original, non-fiction projects that examine stories of national importance that can be better presented through long storytelling.
Cink Uygur, TYT founder and CEO, is a website for a news agency that produces a variety of shows, including its flagship talk show, The Young Turks.

The first project under the new name is Oxy Kingspins, A documentary set to premier at the upcoming 2021 SXSW Film Festival during SXSW Online. Directed by Brendan Fitzgerald, Emmy nominee and Academy Award nominee Nick August-Berna, Oscar-winning director Adam McKay is an executive producer alongside Maeve Cullinan and Todd Schulman.
TYT’s Derya Bernardi and Chris Smith produced the pic, which tells the untold story for the web between drug manufacturers, distributors, street criminals and retailers as they conspired to facilitate this drug-fueled crisis responsible for the deaths of half a million Americans. It reveals the invisible middle layer of the distribution pyramid made up of distributors who ship pills to pharmacies, hospitals, and pain management clinics across the country.
Brendan FitzGerald and Nick August-Perna’s captivating thriller tells the incredible story of how Big Pharma began selling heroin legally to the American people. “It’s an amazing and unbelievable tragedy,” said McKay, “when everything is said and done, it looks like it is: an unnatural drug deal.”
The Uyghurs also served in the EP alongside TYT CBO Steve Oh and XRM Media’s Michael Y. Chow, Sue Turley and Bonnie Buckner, as well as Hayley Pappas and Matt Ippolito of Second Nature.
The next project in the TYT Productions pipeline is a movie directed by Zefrey Throwell (FlameHe looks at the battle between progressives and founding democrats in America.
