Univision added two senior executives to its ad sales ranks before showing off a pair of pre-pitches to media buyers.
The Hispanic media giant is in its first pre-sales cycle since it moved into a consortium of investors led by Viacom Wade Davis’ former CFO, who now leads the company as CEO.
While the format will be hypothetical, Univision is among the traditional players taking back properties in mid-May, the traditional dock for pre-presentations. The company claimed May 18 for its flagship presentation and also scheduled an event entitled “A New Vision on Univision” on March 24th.
Donna Special was among the key employees by the newly formed company gathering its new team, and is a longtime sales manager at Turner and WarnerMedia. Speciale, in turn, appointed former Turner teammates Dan Riess and Dan Aversano to senior positions. Rees has been appointed Executive Vice President and Head of Growth, while Aversano is Senior Vice President, Advanced Data, Analytics and Advertising. Both will report to Speciale.

The company has pursued a “back to basics” strategy focusing on its traditional core viewers since former CEO Randy Falco retired at the end of 2018, which has boosted ratings in the main broadcast network. Layoffs and asset sales took place in 2019, with the company exiting businesses such as Onion and Gizmodo’s English-language portfolios, before selling to new owners closed in December 2020. In addition to its traditional operations, Univision has also launched ads supported by its PrendeTV broadcast service.
“Univision is focused on aggressively developing our advertising sales strategy to better serve our customers and we are excited to share with them the recent progress we have made and map out Univision’s new vision,” Speciale said. “To enhance our efforts, I am delighted that Dan Rees and Dan Avarsano join Univision to be part of my leadership team. Together with our broader team, they will play an important role in transforming our business, improving our advanced advertising capabilities and leveraging data and analytics across the Univision ecosystem to accelerate growth for our clients. “.
